The state of Telangana was formed and came into existence as the 29th state in
the Union of India on and from 2nd June, 2014.
Historically, Telangana has been the homeland to the Sathavahanas and Kakatiyas. Satavahana Empire (230 BC to 220 CE) was important
in repelling foreign empires from India, such as theĀ Indo-Greeks and preserving
Indian culture. The region experienced its golden age during the reign of the Kakatiyas,
a Telugu dynasty that ruled from 1083 to 1323 CE. The region celebrates distinctive
festivals like Bathukamma and Bonalu. Telangana was never under direct British rule
unlike other regions which were part of British India.
The Telangana region comprise of 10 districts - Adilabad, Hyderabad, Khammam, Karimnagar,
Mahboobnagar, Medak, Nalgonda, Nizamabad, Rangareddy and Warangal.
